Razzaza Lake
Lake Razzaza is located between the provinces of Karbala and Anbar, and is considered the second-largest lake in Iraq, part of a chain of lakes that also includes Tharthar, Habbaniyah, and Bahr Al Najaf.
Its waters are fed by the Euphrates River, and its existence dates back to old projects aimed at draining surplus floodwater away from Baghdad and neighboring cities.
The lake is distinguished by its pear-like shape, and within its boundaries lie areas previously known as Hor Abu Dibbis and Bahr Al Milh (Salt Sea), regions historically associated with salt extraction.
Its waters are classified as brackish, with salinity levels varying according to the water level, and it experiences high evaporation rates, especially during summer.
Lake Razzaza holds significant environmental importance as one of the key wetland areas for bird populations, in addition to its tourist, historical, and social significance in the region.
